Social Knitworking Nugget 014: New Shoes
Posted by ConsterMonster in Mini Vidcasts on August 5th, 2010
In this installment of Social Knitworking Nuggets:
Joanna had a shoe problem on Tuesday night. Some flip flops just aren’t meant to live forever. And her right flip decided it was time to flop. But then I came to the rescue! With some mercerized cotton, that sad pathetic broken flip became a Franken-sandal. And of course we had to make the left one match!
I wish we had footage of Joanna walking to her car. It was akward and awesome all at the same time. The left shoe, however decided to give out about three quarters of the way there. Guess I’m not meant to be a cobbler.
It’s 2010!!! – Boobs and Booze

What up Boozers?! Well, will you look at that?! I’m a slacker! No Boobs and Booze post since September? OMG?! Like WTF?
Hey! What do you want from me? A regular post with some kind of educational content? Psssh! Whatev! Well, here’s a little something to tide you over until the next time (whenever that may be, heh).
Many drinks and shots have been had since the last B&B post. Some were good, some bad, some down right foul!
New Year’s Eve – I made the world’s most horrid shot. Whoever decided to let an already drunken Connie make shots was out of their god damned minds.. or had one too many Elbows to the Taint. Here is a fun little video of some of us taking the “Pomegranate Choker”.
Down right FOUL!
But I redeemed myself later on in the month by making Andrea and Joanna this delicious little treat. I like to call it the “Sweet Delightful”
1 part Vanilla Vodka
1 part Triple Sec
1 part Kahlua
Shaken with ice and poured into a shot glass.
Yep, that easy. Now go make your self a couple and thank me later. And don’t let 22-year-olds touch gin. We don’t know what we’re getting into.
Boobs and Booze – September 2009

*Sorry the Boobs and Booze post is a few days late. When you drunkcast, you get hungover and lose track of time. You understand, doncha?*
This month I have a special Boobs and Booze post for all of you lovelies. As you all should know by now, September is Drunk Podcasting month as proclaimed by Z of Hipster, please! The ladies and I decided we needed an exceptionally awesome drink for our drunkcasting and while discussing this, a friend twittered something along the lines of “Stop or I will elbow you in the taint!” Since taint is one of our favorite words* we decided to make our own shot and call it “Elbow to the Taint”.
Now the Elbow to the Taint couldn’t be just any ordinary shot. It had to have a nice start and a kick in it somewhere. We discussed using cinnamon schnapps, peppermint vodka, and other things. I even asked a few friends for suggestions. “What do you think an Elbow to the Taint shot would be?” Almost every god damn one of ‘em had Jagermeister in mind. Which leads me into my rant of why do so many of you like Jager? Ugh! That stuff is so disgusting and overrated. But maybe I just have a problem with it because the first time I ever really drank I was at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights and did about 6 Jager Bombs before wandering around being freaked out by guys with chainsaws and haunted houses. But that’s entirely besides the point. Back to the Taint… or the elbowing of it, anyway.
So we had all of these bright ideas of what to use and when it came down to drunkcasting night, we all forgot to buy the experimental ingredients. So, we made do with Jenn’s liquor supply. =D After some experimentation, we ended with this…
The Elbow to the Taint
-One part Jose Cuervo Tequila
-Two Parts Cruzan Black Strap Rum.
That’s all! So try it out (we DARE you) and tell us what you think! Did it appropriately elbow your taint? Or do you think it needs a little something more. Leave a comment or call the feedback line. You know the drill. Click that awesome Google Talk button on the right of the page or call 215-839-NERD and leave us a message!
Video to come soon!
*We once spent an afternoon discussing various synonyms for taint. And it comes up quite often in conversation. Maybe even more than douche. Maybe.
Boobs and Booze! – August 2009

One day, Connie was thinking of what her monthly contribution to the Social Knitworking blog could be. Connie said, “Monthly alcoholic beverages!” And then it was. Boobs and Booze! Rock! Each month I am going to experiment with drinks I have never tried and present to you my favorite.
This month Joanna discovered a delectable delight that she shared with me. Domaine de Canton. The drink comes in this sexy bottle that Joanna found in an aisle next to the Absinthe. It comes with a neat booklet that describes Domaine de Canton as “A handcrafted infusion of eaux-de-vie and baby ginger enhanced with VSOP Cognac…the world’s first super-premium ginger…made by hand in Tarnac, France from the finest all-natural ingredients”. The booklet also lists some delicious drink recipes one of which involved Limonata and was hit amongst the TSR’s Tuesday night. Yum!
So this months drink I like to call Ginger Loves Mary Ann. Aren’t I witty? Don’t answer that.

Ginger Loves Mary Ann
1 part Domaine de Canton
3 parts Cream Soda
Ice
The hint of ginger with the creaminess of the soda is a dangerously delicious blend. Try it and let me know what you think.
Also, if you have a suggestion or a favorite alcoholic beverage to share, call the feedback line at 215-839-NERD (6373) or use the handy Google Talk button on the right. OR you can send me an email at Connie@socialknitworking.org.
P.S. I feel it neccesary to include the banter that happened while writing this post:
Joanna: “[Knitting] is the thread that binds us [TSR]. Like the Force, Connie!”
Connie: “But isn’t the force just Midichlorians?”
Joanna: (Waving hand as in a Jedi Mind Trick) “There are no Midichlorians, Connie.”
Who knits in Florida?!
Posted by ConsterMonster in Things We Do on August 25th, 2009
I recently ventured into the depths of South Florida to visit family and friends this past month. While there I found myself teaching a friend to knit. We started easy and visited a local Michael’s where we purchased some yarn and needles. A few weeks have passed and she has now completed her first project, the Potato Chip Scarf. I also got her started on the glorious “Blankie“.
Now, FL Friend would like to work on other projects. But as we all know, Michael’s is quite limited in their selection of yarns. Especially in South Florida. I suggested she use online sites like KnitPicks and Yarn.com being that there are virtually NO YARN STORES in her immediate area. Another question we have is, what can one really knit for FL weather? The heat rules out many favorite patterns of mine. Does anyone have a favorite yarn, or project that you think is appropriate for FL? Feel free to leave comments here or on the feedback line: 215.839.6373 (215.839.NERD), or use the Google Voice widget we’ve installed on the blog.
